Jets’ CB Reed Believes That The Team Could Have ‘Historical’ Defence This Season

Even though the Jets only had a 7-10 record in 2018, there is a lot of excitement surrounding the team going into the 2023 season. Meanwhile, the CB Reed has faith in the team’s defence!

Jets’ CB Reed Believes That The Team Could Have ‘Historical’ Defence This Season

New York’s roster on the other side of the ball has the potential to be very strong this next season, especially with the addition of Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. Eight of the eleven starters from a team that finished in the top half of most statistical categories are returning for the Jets, who are expected to improve even more in Robert Saleh’s second season.

D.J. Reed, a seasoned cornerback for the Jets, expressed his unwavering trust in the defence on Monday by comparing his colleagues to some of the best players in history.

“I think we have the potential to be the best defence in the NFL,” Reed said, according to the New York Post. “Honestly, I think we can be historical, not just the best defence in the league, but I think we can be a historical defence like the ’85-’86 Bears and the [Seahawks’ Legion of Boom] in 2013. I think we can be that dominant if we just put all the things together.”

Of fact, the meaning of “historical” defence in 2023 will alter greatly from that of 1985.

Over a 16-game season, that Chicago Bears defence let up fewer than 200 points. Allowing less than 300 points is a success in the NFL nowadays.

The Buffalo Bills are the New York Jets’ greatest AFC East rival. And during the previous two seasons, the Bills’ cumulative point total was the lowest in the NFL.

In addition, Week 1’s Monday Night Football game features the Jets at the Bills. Josh Allen, the quarterback for Buffalo, runs a very strong offence. They finished second to the Kansas City Chiefs last season and were the AFC’s top-scoring team in 2021.

Stopping the Buffalo Bills is the first step towards becoming a “historical” defence for Reed and the Jets.

On Monday Night Football in Week 1 against the potent attack of the Bills, Reed and the Jets will have the chance to support those assertions on a big stage.
