Jeremy Sochan’s One-Handed Free Throw Being Compared To Hall Of Fame Defender Dennis Rodman
Throughout his first season, Jeremy Sochan showed the San Antonio Spurs a lot of promise. He is a skilled defender who can crash the boards and successfully connect with the half-court offence. In terms of his shooting skills, he still has a long way to go.

Just 18.4% of his shots are made from beyond the arc, while 42.9 percent of his attempts are made at the line. In terms of free throw percentage among all players with 25 or more tries, he is 251st out of 253 players. In addition, he is the only player out of 268 with at least 40 attempts who shoots under 21.0 percent from beyond the arc.

“It’s going to be a process,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said of Sochan’s shooting development.
While shooting altogether remains a work in progress for Jeremy Sochan, he drastically changed his free throw shooting. He is no longer using his non-shooting hand as a guide hand on the ball and is instead shooting them entirely one-handed.
Prior to Monday’s victory over the Houston Rockets, Sochan’s new free throw shooting strategy was put into practise at shootaround. Even though he only made 1-4 of the free throws, he managed to finish with 12 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.

Malaki Branham, a rookie with the Spurs, stated of Jeremy Sochan’s new free throw shooting technique after the game on Monday, “He started it today.” “At the shootaround, everything looked good. I believe he will become a proficient free throw shooter if he continues to work on it.”
On the Spurs, Doug McDermott is the best pure shooter. He shared his assessment on Jeremy Sochan’s shooting growth and advised him to maintain his aggression while he went through the process of getting better.

“He has a good stroke — his jump shot,” McDermott said. “Obviously, we’re working through some things. He’s so young, it all just comes down to being aggressive and confident. It doesn’t phase him at all, missing free throws. I think just hitting those 3s tonight might wake him up a little bit.
“We have a lot of faith in him. I’m aware that Brett works closely with him, and he certainly presents himself well. We are aware that he offers much more than just offence. He is an excellent connector overall, a great defender, and a fantastic rebounder.”

When a team has gotten to the point of shooting free throws with one hand, it’s obvious that things have gotten a little out of hand without being an expert in shooting mechanics.
Jeremy Sochan, a rookie for the Spurs, can’t help but compare himself to Dennis Rodman, a Hall of Fame defender and former Spur. He was already drawing parallels to Rodman because of his neon hair colour and reputation as a long, bothersome defender with offensive struggles, but they only got worse when he decided to wear number 10 with the Spurs instead of Rodman’s number. After the Spurs’ most recent victory over the Houston Rockets, he added another element to his game that made the similarities circulate once more: attempts at one-handed free throws.
