According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Titans made the largest move of their free agency thus far by re-signing defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons to a huge four-year, $94 million contract.

The Titans gave Simmons’ retention top priority when he entered the final year of his rookie contract, offering him a $23.5 million yearly salary.

Just behind Rams standout Aaron Donald, the 25-year-old is now the second most paid player at his position.

With the 19th overall choice in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Titans selected Simmons. Prior to being drafted, Simmons was a standout player at Mississippi State. Prior to that, he won back-to-back state titles at Mississippi’s Noxubee County High School.

Simmons has repaid the Titans for selecting him in the first round by becoming a two-time NFL All-Pro. They thus honoured him with a lucrative deal.

“Thank you for the past four years, Titans Nation! I am so grateful for you guys,” Simmons tweeted Friday. “But we are not done yet, dammit! LFG!!!! We have so much work to do!”

Simmons spoke to the media about his well-deserved contract extension on Wednesday. And he was unable to control his feelings.

Simmons stated that he went “from house to house and apartment to apartment” after taking a minute to collect himself.

Then he spoke about the generations of Simmons to come.

“My kids’ kids, you know generational wealth as we call it, that’s what I do it for,” Simmons said through tears.

He claimed that whenever he felt like giving up or not working hard enough, he would think about his mother’s sacrifice.

“I think about my mom having to raise five kids on her own. And for me to say ‘I don’t want to do this’ … that’s my motivation.”

It served as a poignant reminder that playing professional sports may significantly alter someone’s life. not just the players, but also their families.
