Jazz PG Mike Conley diagnosed with mild hamstring strain

Jazz point guard Mike Conley was diagnosed with a mild right hamstring strain during an MRI exam performed Thursday.

The Jazz said Conley will be evaluated prior to the opening game of their next playoff series. Utah will play either the Dallas Mavericks or Los Angeles Clippers in the second round.

Conley injured the hamstring during the second quarter of Utah’s series-clinching 126-110 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night. He had seven points and two assists in 12 minutes before departing.

Conley missed nine games due to an injury to the same hamstring late in the regular season.

But he was taking the optimistic approach following the win over Memphis.

“My mindset is I’m going to be ready to play,” Conley told reporters. “That’s kind of the visual I put in front of myself: ‘I’m going to be ready.’ But at the same time, we’re going to see what happens in the next few days and be smart about how we approach it going into this next series.”

Conley averaged 17.4 points and 8.6 assists in the five-game series with the Grizzlies. The figures were 20 points and 10.3 assists over the first four games. Jazz

The Mavericks hold a 3-2 lead in the series over the Clippers with a chance to close it out on Friday night. If Dallas wins, the Mavericks-Jazz series would begin Sunday in Salt Lake City.

Los Angeles forcing a Game 7 would give Conley at least two extra days of recuperation time. Jazz
