James Jones compares 49ers’ QB Trey Lance to Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers

Is Trey Lance as good as Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes?

Trey Lance of the San Francisco 49ers has begun to garner significant media notice. Many commentators, fans and pundits now recognise the 22-year-potential old’s as he approaches his second NFL season.

Retired Green Bay Packers receiver James Jones maintained the pattern during a recent interview on NFL Total Access, even comparing Lance to his former QB, Aaron Rodgers.

“I think we’re looking at a bona fide superstar [in Lance],” Jones stated. “We had a tiny sample of Aaron Rodgers, yet all you could hear coming out from the locker room and from those surrounding Aaron was, ‘Just wait.’ You’ll have to wait and see.’ That was the case with Patrick Mahomes: a tiny sample size, but everyone said, ‘Just wait.’ This youngster is going to be something remarkable.’ And the same thing is being said about Trey Lance in the 49ers locker room.”

Lance’s characteristics and talents, and also head coach Kyle Shanahan, were cited by Jones as reasons for putting Lance in the same category as previous superstars.

“Everyone says he’s got superstar stamped all across him,” Jones added. “There is nothing he cannot accomplish. He can create exploits with his legs and possesses a powerful arm. Kyle Shanahan, the head coach, will put him in excellent circumstances. I believe he will be mentioned in the same breath as Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers in the coming years.”

Trey Lace stats for San Francisco 49ers

Last season, Trey Lance demonstrated his two-dimensional abilities by rushing for 89 yards on 16 efforts during his first debut against the Arizona Cardinals and passing for 248 yards on 16/23 passes in his second game against the Houston Texans.

Unlike the other quarterbacks picked early in his draught class, Lance has no NFL starting experience. However, he is slated to be the 49ers’ starting quarterback in 2022, as the team keeps trying to trade experienced quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who underwent shoulder surgery earlier this summer.
