James Harden Escalates Beef With 76ers’ Daryl Morey

While James Harden maintains his trade request from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Los Angeles Clippers, his feud with Daryl Morey has reached new heights. Harden, who publicly called Morey a liar while in China, reportedly had posters at his party that said, “Daryl Morey is a liar.”

This week, Harden escalated his spat with Morey by throwing a party with an apparent jab at Morey. A hostess was seen holding a banner that said “Daryl Morey is a liar” during Harden’s party.

Someone is clearly upset.

The feud began this offseason when Harden wanted a trade out of Philadelphia. The 76ers’ front management sent out feelers for Harden before suspending trade discussions indefinitely. According to Harden, Morey and the front office abandoned their ‘commitment’ to move him when he exercised his $35.6 million option for 2023-24.

During a recent trip to China, Harden stated unequivocally that he would never play for a team that employed Daryl Morey. He timing looked to be convenient, given that the CCP leadership in China despises the executive for once expressing support for Hong Kong sovereignty.

Perhaps the repercussions from Lillard joining the Bucks and Jrue Holiday joining the Trail Blazers will pave the way for Harden to be moved, but there appears to be no progress on a deal to the Clippers or anyplace else right now. The 76ers have a lot to figure out between now and the start of the next season, and it gets much more complex if he decides not to show up – or shows up and causes havoc.

He was fined $100,000 by the NBA following his comments in China.

Last season, he averaged 21 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 10.7 assists in Philadelphia. Last season’s Eastern Conference Semifinals were lost to the Boston Celtics, who were also led by NBA MVP Joel Embiid.
