When Leerdam turned professional in 2018, she built a name for herself in speed skating quite rapidly. She had some early success, taking home two gold medals from the 2017 World Junior Championships.

She has won four gold medals in the European Championships, two in the World Sprint Championships, and four in the World Singles Distances Championships. Her career has taken off after that.
She added another medal to her collection in the 2022 Olympics when she won a silver in the 1000m competition.
