Ja Morant’s ‘I’m fine in the West’ Comments Resurfaces & Hits Him Right In His Face

In December, Ja Morant and the Grizzlies were unconcerned at all about the Western Conference, at least in his own words.

But as it turns out, the Grizzlies ought to have been concerned. Very concerned. The No. 7 seed Lakers eliminated Memphis on Friday. Furthermore, they were eliminated after losing Game 6 by a score of 40 points.

Ja Morant’s ‘I’m Fine in the West’ Comments Resurfaces & Hits Him Right In His Face

Malika Andrews questioned Ja Morant in December about which clubs he should be following. Ja Morant responded.

When questioned about the opponents he should be concerned about, he said rather literally, “I’m fine in the West.” Currently, Morant and the Grizzlies are the target of widespread ridicule.

Ja Morant doesn’t care how the Memphis Grizzlies were affected by his “I’m fine in the West” comment earlier this season. Morant accepted full responsibility for the team’s failure to go beyond the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the playoffs.

Ja is accepting the criticism well, to be fair. He has been hearing about what he said for months, and he is taking it in stride. That characterizes a skilled trash-talker.

In his postgame interview, Morant said that the Grizzlies were adversely affected by his off-court problems for the remainder of the season. Back in March, the NBA punished Morant for eight games for behaviour that was bad for the league.

“I just got to be better with my decision-making,” Morant said. “That’s pretty much it. My off-the-court issues affected us as an organization pretty much, just more disciplined. … I feel like mine is more off the court and on the court, being disciplined on both sides.

“Off the court, making better decisions. On the court, being locked in even more. Being a leader of this team pretty much start with me, so however I attack any situation, I know my guys will follow, so I just got to be better in that area.”

That didn’t, however, stop the jokes from coming.
