“It’s Rat Poison”: Jalen Hurts Has Lowered His Expectations For the Upcoming NFL Season
The first seven games of Jalen Hurts’ season last year were outstanding, but his final nine games were terrible (16.1 points per game). He decreased his passing attempts per game from 34.6 to 23.8 and his touchdown percentage from 4.1% to 3.2%.
Philadelphia increased its rush rate to 59% starting in Week 8, which is unusually high and almost illogical. With the addition of new players, the Philadelphia Eagles have significantly improved their roster for the 22–23 NFL season. Many experts and supporters anticipate that the team will win the National League East, make the playoffs, and win the Super Bowl.
However, quarterback Jalen Hurts wants to dampen everyone’s excitement. He claims that although they have a wonderful squad, raising expectations to such a high level is unhealthy for everyone.
Jalen Hurts with lower expectations for new season
“There’s a lot of rat poison, in short. It’s all external factors that we don’t want to pertain ourselves to or be involved with. It all comes back to pushing ourselves every day in practice, doing the things we need to do to maximize the day and win the days and to get better.”
“It’s just a lot of rat poison”
“To get better, you have to push yourself. That brings discomfort”

“Not everybody’s built that way,” Jalen Hurts said.
“Fortunately for me, I’m very familiar with this space. … All of it means nothing. Expectations are just something you haven’t done yet.”

Allow the fun to continue. The Eagles’ best-case scenario under the 53-man roster reduction rules wouldn’t have been all that different in June: The squad is healthy, young players are improving, veterans mainly looked as advertised, and stock prices have been trending upward.
Jalen Hurts had his shortcomings in 2021, although he had much improved since 2020. In a one-QB system, round five is a good time to draught him, while fifth overall is a good place to draught him in a two-QB setup.
