“It’s bull****, I’m the f****** guy” – Ron Rivera passionately defends Commanders’ QB Carson Wentz
Before he left the microphone at the end of his press conference, Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera strongly defended his role in getting quarterback Carson Wentz. After Washington’s 12-7 victory over the Chicago Bears on Thursday, Rivera walked up to an exit door and said, “I’m sorry, I’m done.”
With tonight’s 12-7 victory over the Chicago Bears, the Washington Commanders improved to 2-4. Since their victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1, they have lost their previous four games. The Commanders played their debut game in primetime and on Amazon’s new Thursday Night Football broadcast today.
The head coach, Ron Rivera,’s post-game news conference was not captured on camera by the team. After Rivera was questioned regarding a thorough story from ESPN this morning about Dan Snyder and his influence over every facet of the organization, the conversation was stopped short.

One of the allegations was that, contrary to what Rivera and the organization informed the media, Dan Snyder made the decision to trade for Carson Wentz in order to acquire a quarterback. In a lengthy response, Rivera refuted the report and claimed responsibility for making the decision to bring in Wentz.
According to an ESPN story published on Thursday, owner Dan Snyder was reportedly the one who wanted Wentz. Washington bought Wentz in a transaction last winter. The assertion that the owner insisted on a deal for Wentz was vigorously denied by Rivera. Wentz was on Rivera’s list of desirable quarterbacks to potentially acquire entering the offseason after producing a list of analytics demonstrating his effectiveness.
He has said that while at the scouting combine in Indianapolis last winter, they discovered Wentz was available. The story was also released two days after Rivera responded “quarterback” to a question about the distinction between his NFC East rivals and his rebuilding squad. Later, Rivera clarified that he intended to say that those teams had quarterbacks who had been with them for a longer period of time.
“Bulls—-, everyone who continues claiming I didn’t want anything to do with Carson”, stated Rivera. “I’m the f—-ing guy who got out the paper when we were in Indianapolis, looked at the stats, and watched the footage, OK? The young man doesn’t deserve to have that all the time, which irritates me.”
