“It’s a Really Big Deal…”- Joe Rogan Shares His Thoughts on James Krause’s UFC Betting Scandal

One of the biggest controversies in the UFC in 2022 was the incident involving James Krause and his fighter, Darrick Minner. Following the incident, Krause was banned from the UFC, and fighters were prohibited from training under him. The incident in question saw suspicious wagering activity on the fight between Minner and Nuerdanbieke.

The lines moved dramatically in favor of Nuerdanbieke (from -220 to -420). The ending sequence saw Minner throw a kick which had him hurt, he succumbed to the ground after which Nuerdanbieke landed a few shots before the referee stepped in and stopped the fight. Since the event, the UFC has appointed an external agency to independently investigate the incident. While this has invoked strong reactions from both Dana White and the wider MMA community, Joe Rogan had not commented on it until his recent podcast episode with Dave Portnoy.

Joe Rogan shares his thoughts on the UFC’s latest scandal

While speaking to Portnoy, Rogan shared his thoughts on the incident. He said, “I think the UFC recently because of the James Krause thing. James Krause was a manager who was managing and training a fighter who was accused of telling people about an injury that could affect the outcome of a fight.”

He continued, “And I don’t know if it’s true. I don’t know what the evidence is for the allegations. But I know it’s serious enough for investigating it. And it’s serious enough for his fighters to not allow them to compete in the UFC anymore. So it’s a really big deal…”

Joe Rogan then shared his thoughts on fighters not being able to train at the gym. He said, “I am friends with people that just train at the UFC that train at his gym that work at the UFC have to find a new gym… I’m like Woah! You just train here. It’s a gym filled with fighters. You aren’t even allowed to train there anymore. Or they feel that they aren’t allowed to train there anymore.”

While many in the MMA community believe that the punishment should have stopped at Krause, others believe that banning fighters from training with Krause is not harsh, given what just happened.
