Israel Adesanya Arrested At JFK For Carrying Brass knuckles

After attempting to get through security with brass knuckles on Wednesday, Israel Adesanya was stopped and held for a short time.

The former UFC champion was “arrested at about 1:57 p.m. ET today at JFK Terminal for having metal knuckles,” according to Port Authority police. The first information about Adesanya’s arrest came from TMZ.

While there are no federal regulations governing the possession or use of brass buckles, many states have enacted legislation against them. States like Nevada, California, Vermont, Michigan, and New York, among others, fully outlaw brass knuckles.

New York Penal Law 265.01(1) outlines the class ‘A’ misdemeanour offence of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree. It establishes certain objects that are automatically considered weapons, including brass knuckles, regardless of whether or not you had the intent to use that object unlawfully against another person. If found guilty, people could be punished with a one-year jail term plus fines.

Tim Simpson, Adesanya’s manager at Paradigm Sports Management, said in a statement to MMA Fighting that the former UFC champion had already been released and was on his way back to New Zealand.

Israel received a gift from a fan, which he put in his luggage, according to Simpson’s statement. “When the item was flagged at the airport, Israel swiftly got rid of it and worked with the authorities.

“He has complied accordingly. With that, the matter was dismissed, and he is on his way home.”

Adesanya had been in New York for a few days getting ready for the UFC 281 main event matchup with Alex Pereira.

Last week was difficult for the 33-year-old fighter.

Over the weekend, Stylebender headed to New York, where he lost in the Octagon for the second time in his professional career at UFC 281. He was defeated by newly crowned UFC Middleweight Champion Alex Pereira by knockout in the fifth round.

In their most recent match, AP and Adesanya were victorious (by a unanimous decision) for the GLORY Middleweight title.
