Is there any place for Gardner Minshew to start?
Gardner Minshew is a well-known NFL folklore player. With a smooth combination of a beautiful mustache and his Florida personality, he has won over the hearts of NFL fans. But his playing career with the Philadelphia Eagles is also an interesting case: he did a very good job when stepping up for Jalen Hurts during the 2021 season, but remains his backup with no chance of taking the starter job from him.
During the 2021-22 season, Minshew asked head coach Nick Sirianni what he’d have to do to earn the starting job. Sirianni was clear with him: there was nothing he could do. But the head coach was also appreciative of his mentality and the fact that, once he was away from the spotlight again, he was giving it everything during practice, without complaining or creating distractions.
With free agency coming up after this season, it’s difficult to see any team looking for Gardner Minshew to start, even though he made a good impression on NFL front offices with his performance against the Jets. But his wishes to be a franchise quarterback probably aren’t going to be granted anytime soon.

I'm surprised the Seahawks haven't considered trying to bring Gardner Minshew back to the state where he played college football. If you're going to rebuild, do it with style.

Minshew is one of the best backup quarterbacks in the league. His arm might not be strong enough to give him a shot at an NFL job, but he’s careful and smart with the ball, avoiding turnovers most of the time. The fact that he’s still in his rookie contract is also a plus for the Philadelphia Eagles as a whole.

The Eagles’ number one priority is for Hurts to succeed, and they’ll give him every chance to do so, which means Minshew will only play if a disaster happens for Philadelphia. But to have a backup like him is a blessing, especially because you know you’re not going to be in huge trouble if he has to step up.
