Is Michael Chandler vs Conor McGregor the Fight to Make Next?: ‘Iron’ Michael Chandler Definitely Thinks So

UFC lightweight contender Michael Chandler spoke to MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin and went on to pitch a fight between himself and Conor McGregor. ‘Iron’ Mike Chandler has been long since angling for a fight against McGregor, as it would arguably bring in the biggest payday of his entire career.

Moreover, facing a star-like ‘Notorious’ would be significant to highlight his decision to leave Bellator as one of their most accomplished fighters and join the UFC to fight the very best.

Michael Chandler makes his case to face Conor McGregor

Michael Chandler already has a fight booked in May against former interim champion Tony Ferguson and that will prove to be a test in itself. However, Chandler is willing to look past his engagement with ‘El Cucuy’ and he wants to face the Irishman in either July or August.

“I want that Conor [McGregor] fight for just the magnitude of the moment. Stepping inside the octagon and doing something really monumental and fighting him in front of all the mixed martial arts eyeballs. Eyeballs all across the entire world. You don’t get a bigger platform than fighting Conor McGregor.”

Chiefly, Chandler’s pitch to McGregor is that the former ‘champ-champ’ would earn an immediate title shot against him if he manages to secure the win. This would play right into Conor McGregor’s overall plans as he’s extremely keen to have the belt wrapped around his waist once more.

“That’s what I would love ti happen if I don’t get the title shot of course. July-August would be great for me… The timing works out perfect. I think I’m a great guy for Conor. If he comes back and doesn’t get the title shot, he’s going to have to go through somebody to get that title shot. I’m that perfect guy ranked about number 5 where he could come in. If he gets a win, he definitely gets a title shot.”

It remains to be seen if Conor McGregor actually decides that Michael Chandler makes sense for him as a comeback fight. ‘The Notorious’ last fought inside the octagon back at UFC 264 in July 2021 and he’ll want to make his way back to the cage in an emphatic fashion.
