Is Luis Rubiales Apology After K*ssing Soccer Star, Jenni Hermoso, “wasn’t sufficient?”

On Wednesday, Jenni Hermoso’s World Cup victory lap took another intriguing turn.

The 33-year-old Hermoso, an attacking midfielder for Spain’s national team, released a statement with her union denouncing the “unacceptable” actions of Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish Football Federation, who kissed Hermoso after the team defeated England on Sunday, 1-0, in the Women’s World Cup final, as she and her teammates kept the celebrations going with distinctive accessories.

“My union, FUTPRO, in coordination with my agency, TMJ, are taking care of defending my interests and have taken over as my interlocutors on this matter,” the statement read.

FUTPRO, a group that supports female athletes in Spain, continued, “From our association, we ask the Royal Spanish Football Federation to implement the necessary protocols, ensure the rights of our players and adopt exemplary measures. It is essential that our team, the current world champion, is always represented by figures who project values of equality and respect in all areas.”

The organization stated it “rejects any attitude or conduct that violates the rights of soccer players,” and from the union, is “working so that acts like the ones we have seen never go unpunished, are sanctioned and the pertinent measures are adopted to protect soccer players from actions that we believe are unacceptable.”

The message was sent immediately after a different statement, made by Hermoso, was made public by the Spanish federation and described the occurrence as “a totally spontaneous mutual gesture,” according to The Guardian.

However, it has been rumored that the “words attributed to Hermoso did not come from her directly,” as per SI.com.

In the wake of the incident, there has been widespread outrage, including severe criticism from Pedro Sanchez, Spain’s interim prime minister.

“What we saw was an unacceptable gesture,” Sanchez said, according to ESPN.

Rubiales apologized, but Sanchez thought it “wasn’t sufficient.”According to the Daily Mail, the team appears to be enjoying the sun in Ibiza as some players, like Hermoso, have posted pictures of temporary tattoos that read, “There is no summer without a kiss.”
