After Andrew Luck’s retirement following the 2018 season, Indy has been without a long-term franchise quarterback and is currently searching for one.
Is Lamar Jackson Likely To Be Traded to Colts? What Are The Chances?
Since the Indianapolis Colts became the first and only NFL team other than the Baltimore Ravens to officially express interest in quarterback Lamar Jackson, one week has passed. Yet, the most of what has taken place over the past week appears to be a part of an internal discussion on the subject with no clear direction as of yet.
#Colts fans, do you agree with @mlombardiNFL’s statement saying that the Colts need to trade for a “blue chip” player in Lamar Jackson?pic.twitter.com/MhJC08K9TY

“Any time a special player is available, which he is, you’ve got to do the work,” Ballard said at the NFL meetings. “I’m not going to get into deep discussions on where it’s at or what we’re doing or what we might do. All I can tell you is he’s a really good player, really special player. But you never know how any of this will work out.”
During that same night, Colts owner Jim Irsay skillfully vacillated between expressing interest in the Jackson concept and rejecting it.

Jackson is being held by the Ravens on a non-exclusive franchise tag, but he told reporters that money wasn’t a problem.
“It really has nothing to do with actual dollars,” Irsay said. “I mean, paying a contract like that is not a problem. I mean, it’s not a problem for me. The issue is what’s the right thing to do for the franchise in terms of what helps us win in the long run.”
Ever since its complicated!

ProFootballTalk’s Peter King wrote about what he thinks the Colts could do with the fourth-overall pick. He thinks they could go with a quarterback or package it into a deal to acquire Jackson.
King said:
“The Colts are in a good but not great spot. After going the last five seasons with five different starting quarterbacks, they need to get off the QB-go-round and settle on one long-term—but if they don’t believe in Richardson or Levis, they can’t force it.
“There may be the option of trading down or picking Hendon Hooker (the Tennessee quarterback is coming off ACL surgery and is likely to miss most of 2023), which would mean Gardner Minshew playing to start the season in a year that’s pretty important for Ballard after four straight years without a playoff win.”
