Is Derrick Henry To Cowboys A Wise Choice?

Since it was uploaded on social media on Thursday, the fan base’s whole attention has been focused on the Cowboys free agency rumors.

The Cowboys lost Ezekiel Elliott in 2023, and Tony Pollard, Elliott’s replacement, is likewise a free agent. Dallas should prioritize filling the position of running back in the summer, and Henry’s recent acquisition and Dallas ties make him an ideal match on paper.

Even while he was a player for the Dallas Cowboys, Henry already owned a property in the region and trained here throughout the offseason.  So, the home purchase on its own could certainly mean nothing significant.

A 30-year-old running back is almost nonexistent in the NFL these days, and Henry has endured more work than most, coming in second only to Ezekiel Elliott in career rushing attempts (2,030) among current backs. Though he recently finished his sixth season with 1,000 yards or more in six years, the veteran Tennessee Titans player has remained a reliable, enormous offensive focal point for over ten years.

Although his 2023 yards-per-carry average was the lowest of his All-Pro career, according to the NFL’s Next Gen Stats, he also encountered more eight-man defensive fronts than most and led the league in yards after contact.

After a challenging season for Tony Pollard, many Dallas Cowboys supporters are pleading for the team to acquire a new running back. This follows the team’s release of Ezekiel Elliott from the previous season. If the Cowboys sign Henry, their backfield issues from the 2023 season may be fixed.

Now, the only potential downside to the agreement is Henry’s age, which challenges the Cowboys’ idea of an aging running back. While some could contend that Henry’s advancing years are causing him to produce less, this is not really the case. He gained 1,168 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2023 running. In the season finale, he ran for over 100 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Despite all the speculation, a great deal of interest and excitement are being produced around Henry’s future. As he weighs his free agency possibilities, it will be intriguing to see where he ends up and how his career progresses.
