According to Darren Rovell of the Action Network, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission is apparently looking into the University of Iowa baseball team in relation to the suspension of many players before to the club’s most recent series against Ohio State.

In addition to one full-time employee of the University of Iowa Department of Athletics, 26 active student-athletes who compete in baseball, football, men’s basketball, track and field, and men’s wrestling have been made aware of the investigation into sports betting and are fully cooperating.

In addition to alerting the NCAA to possible breaches, Iowa also stated that it had “hired outside counsel to assist in the investigative process.”

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission has allegedly opened an inquiry after several University of Iowa baseball players were suspended for a three-game series against Ohio State that was played in Iowa over the weekend.

“Due to a potential NCAA violation, we withheld some student-athletes from competition. As issue is still under investigation, we won’t have any more remarks, the school stated in an email on May 5.

Up to four players, including top infielder Keaton Anthony, pitcher Jacob Henderson, catcher Ben Tallman, and redshirt freshman Gehrig Christensen, were reportedly unavailable for Iowa’s series versus the Buckeyes.

The baseball team for the Hawkeyes is 10-7 in the Big Ten and has an overall record of 34-12. Anthony, a 2022 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American, currently leads the team in hitting average, on-base percentage (OBP), slugging percentage, and on-pitch strength (OPS). Before the current series, he has not been absent from any games this season.

Only a few days have passed after Alabama was the target of a gambling-related controversy before the Iowa baseball program came under scrutiny. After it was discovered that Brad Bohannon had engaged in perhaps questionable sports gambling behavior before to a series versus LSU, the Crimson Tide baseball team sacked him as head coach.
