Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson Apologises To Fans For Arrogant Preseason Celebration

Thursday’s 2023 preseason game between the Colts and Eagles featured Anthony Richardson at his best. When the quarterback took over, the Philadelphia Eagles were up 7-0 and went on a drive that ended with a running score.

But it wasn’t his play that drew the interest of so many onlookers. Instead, he turned to face the Philadelphia supporters and performed a “Fly Eagles Fly” celebration on the field when the score was knotted at one touchdown each. It was a typical taunt.

Deon Jackson’s three-yard running touchdown in the first quarter effectively tied the score at 7-7, and Richardson celebrated by imitating Philadelphia’s “Fly Eagles Fly” celebration by swinging his arms up and down.

“Sometimes when you get into the end zone, you just freeze up and don’t know what to do. So I was contemplating what I was going to do if I scored or if somebody else scored. So I ran down there and I was just flapping my arms and having fun. I hope nobody took it the wrong way. I was just balling, having fun out there, and enjoying it.”

Richardson completed 6-of-17 passes for 78 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions during the first half of play on Thursday. He also rushed for 38 yards on five carries.

Philadelphia made it to the Super Bowl last year, and this season, following the draft, they have arguably become even stronger on both sides of the ball. They will be among the favorites in the NFC this year because to Jalen Hurts’ big deal.

The Colts, who went 4-12-1 last year, are perhaps in a worse situation this year. There is a solid argument to be made that their chances of success are lower than those of the Philadelphia Eagles when you consider that the AFC is now undoubtedly a harder league overall.

Richardson, who stands 6’4″ and weighs 244 pounds, is clearly a raw talent, but the Colts took a chance on him by selecting him with the fourth overall choice in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Richardson has a powerful arm and strong running ability, which might make him one of the NFL’s most thrilling rookies.
