‘I’m Down for Whatever He Wants’- Dana White on Alexander Volkanovski’s Intent to Face Charles Oliveira for the Lightweight Title

UFC President Dana White spoke to the MacLife and commented on recent statements made by Alexander Volkanovski regarding a move to the 155-pound division. Alexander ‘The Great’ is keen to make a run at becoming a two-division champion by defeating Charles Oliveira. Being a two-division UFC champion will help solidify Alexander Volkanovski’s legacy forever and put him amongst the all-time greats.

While some fans question a champion’s status of being able to move up in weight and keep their own division on hold, it seems as though Alexander Volkanovski’s decision to move to lightweight is being wholeheartedly supported.

In fact, UFC President Dana White revealed that he’s entirely on board with Volkanovski’s desire to move to lightweight.

Dana White gives Alexander Volkanovski the green light

The long-time UFC boss said that once Alexander Volkanovski gets past his rival UFC in Max Holloway, the path would be clear to make a move to the lightweight division. Holloway has been Volkanovski’s biggest adversary and a win over him would give Volkanovski some much-deserved leeway.

“So, Volkanovski is one of those guys who has earned the respect of everybody, I would say, by now. You know, he’s got this Holloway fight that probably makes sense for him to do this and put this behind him.”

“Then you don’t have to hear about it anymore, and that guy can do whatever he wants to do. I mean, if he wants to move up and challenge somebody at ’55 or whatever he wants to do, I’m down for whatever he wants.” [h/t bjpenn.com]

Alexander Volkanovski has been a force as the featherweight champion and his recent demolition of ‘The Korean Zombie’ showed that he’s a step ahead of the competition. Alexander Volkanovski’s orientation and training have allowed him to become one of the most premium champions in the organization.

Charles Oliveira has been a lightweight ace in his own right and his recent wins have placed him at the very top. He will be favored in a potential fight against Alexander Volkanovski, given his strength of schedule to date.
