Start: April 20th, Thursday End: Sunday, April 30 On Thursday, April 20, the IIHF U18 World Championship gets underway. That day is the start of the preliminary round, which lasts through Tuesday, April 25. The quarterfinals of the tournament’s playoff round are played on Thursday, April 27. For the first round, those participants are divided into two groups of five. Within each group, teams will play four preliminary games in a round-robin style. A three-round playoff will then follow. Teams in the group stage receive three points for winning in regulation, two points for winning in overtime, one point for losing in overtime, and no points for losing in regulation. The quarterfinal round, when the pairings are decided, features the top four teams from each group. For the following matches, players will switch groups: 1A vs. 4B, 1B vs. 4A, 2A vs. 3B, and 2B vs. 3A. Reseeded teams will be chosen for the semifinals. The gold medal match will include the semifinal winners. For bronze, the losers will compete.
