‘I Want to Fight for a Title’- Nick Diaz Wants to ‘Skip all the Mess’ and Face Kamaru Usman for the UFC Welterweight Belt
Fan-favorite fighter Nick Diaz spoke to TMZ while at a promotional event with fans and talked about his comeback to the UFC’s octagon. Diaz shocked the world by coming back into the fold and he faced Robbie Lawler in what was a throwback fight for the ages.
Diaz was asked about the timeline of his return and he revealed that the latter half of 2022 made sense for a comeback. Nick Diaz is 38-years old and fought in September 2021 after last competing all the way back in 2015 against Anderson Silva.

“Working on the end of the year. I’m working on it.”
While he’s most certainly targeting a return, Nick Diaz also talked about how he doesn’t have an opponent in mind. He made it clear that barring training, he wasn’t directing his focus onto other things.
“I don’t know right now, I’m just focused on my training right now.”

Does Nick Diaz deserve a fast-tracked title shot?
In the same interview, Nick Diaz also explained that he wasn’t too keen on facing young, up-and-coming contenders on his way to a title shot. He believes that on the star-power he commands, he should be allowed to skip the line and simply fight for the title.
This take as provided by Nick Diaz is sure to be polarising to some.
“I’d rather fight for a [UFC] title. Yeah, If I’m going to fight, I want to fight for a title. They want to say if I want to fight a bunch of guys and stuff like that, it’s a bigger fight if you just skip all the mess you know. I don’t need to go in there and get my a*s whooped by one of them guys anyways. It’s not that I won’t win, it’s just not motivating to fight someone that’s… I want to fight for the title, I’m 38 years old.”
The elder Diaz brother certainly is one of the biggest stars in the sport, however, it’s unlikely he’ll be fast-tracked to a title shot. He hasn’t won a fight since October 2011 and is 0-3-1 since then.
