‘I want to be better than Davante Adams’ – Vikings WR Justin Jefferson makes bold claim ahead of 2022-23 NFL season

Prior to the 2022-23 NFL season, Justin Jefferson is calling his shot. The Minnesota Vikings wideout said Las Vegas Raiders WR Davante Adams is the greatest in the game right now when speaking with Complex.com. But Jefferson thinks he’ll surpass him as the best player at the position by the end of the year.

“After this season, I’ll be the top receiver in the NFL”, Jefferson declared. “Davante Adams deserves it right now because of how wild and dynamic he is on the field. I have to give it to him now because of how insane his route running is, but after this year, I’m very confident I’ll win.”

It has been more challenging to disagree with Jefferson as he has had a record-breaking streak since joining the league. With 3,016 yards in his first two seasons, the dynamic wide receiver now owns the record for most receiving yards by a player. In general, the figure has been the highest in the NFL since 2020, and Jefferson is tied with Michael Thomas of New Orleans for the most catches made in a WR’s first two seasons (196).

All of that success came in a running-heavy offense, but with the Vikings’ recent hiring of head coach Kevin O’Connell, the passing game in Minnesota should become more accessible. This will raise Jefferson’s potential as he works to improve his game and surpass his second-season total of 1,616 receiving yards.

“To get everyone to believe it, I feel I need to repeat it three years in a row. Some people don’t believe you deserve to be at the top of the league after two seasons. Then there is me; I believe I will pass 1,600 yards as well. So I believe that after this year, I’ll be the top receiver.” he explained.

Adams’ time with the Green Bay Packers came to an end after five straight appearances in the Pro Bowl when he was dealt to the Las Vegas Raiders earlier in the 2022 offseason. The only two players in NFL history to accumulate more than 1,600 receiving yards in consecutive seasons are Calvin Johnson and Antonio Brown.

Defenses on the other team should be terrified at the prospect of Jefferson’s potential in the same offense. He’s not just showing up to compete for a spot at the league’s best receivers’ table this year. He intends to take the throne.
