“I Take All This Too Serious”- Glover Teixeira Recalls the ‘Miserable’ Training Camp That Turned His Career Around

UFC light heavyweight Glover Teixeira sat down with UFC play-by-play commentator Jon Anik to talk about his UFC 275 headlining appearance. The 42-year-old MMA veteran takes on Jiri Prochazka in what will be his first title defense since winning the belt against Jan Blachowicz.

Teixeira has seen it all in his career and last fought for the title against Jon Jones all the way back in 2014. 7 years since losing to Jones, Glover Teixeira was able to put together a meaningful run and truly actualize his goal of becoming an undisputed champion.

He spoke to Jon Anik and expanded on some of the hardships he has faced to reach this point in his UFC run.

Glover Teixeira on his ‘miserable’ training camp back in 2018

Teixeira hasn’t lost a fight since 2018 and when he was defeated by Corey Anderson, he described the event as being the product of a ‘miserable training camp’. He revealed that he was taking life too seriously, and that it was upsetting the balance of his ability to perform in the cage.

It’s seemingly this shift in mindset upon realizing his mistakes that ultimately pushed Teixeira onto the path to victory.

“Taking life to serious. I have this gift to fight and I know how good I am in training and fighting with Chuck [Liddell] and Lyoto [Machida] and Junior dos Santos, training with all the top fighters like I have to be champion.”

“I take all this too serious. The camp was miserable and after that loss I was 39 years old and I was ‘Man, I take this so serious, I’m not even going to fight for the title again’. I’m just going to enjoy my last couple of fights.”

Glover Teixeira has a massive job lined up for him as he attempts to put the brakes on one of the most dynamic fighters in the UFC. He will have to use his wealth of experience in the fight game to truly make sure that Prochazka’s diverse weapons set is shut off before he can get going.
