“I Still Want to Beat the S**t Out of You”-Gilbert Burns Calls for a Fight With Jorge Masvidal With the ‘BMF’ Belt on the Line

Gilbert Burns is currently 1-2 in his last three fights. After being stopped violently by Usman, ‘Durinho’ bounced back with a win over Stephen Thompson. In his last outing, Burns took on the highly-rated Khamzat Chimaev in a three-round fight. ‘Burns’ and ‘Borz’ put on arguably one of the most entertaining and competitive fights of the year. Although he lost the fight, Burns’ stock in the UFC only appreciated after his performance. 

After the win, The Brazilian fighter stated that he would like to take on Jorge Masvidal in a fight. In a recent interview, he shared his views on a potential bout between the two and how it might play out. He said, “I respect you so much. I think you’re one of the BMFs. You’re a legend. You have over 50 fights, but brotha, I have a lot of bad intentions. I respect you but I still want to beat the s**t out of you.”

‘Durinho’ continued, “I think we can get that done in Florida. I think we have a big Spanish community, all of the Cubans, all of the Brazilians. We can sell out any arena here. Let’s put the BMF belt on the line.”

Gilbert Burns vs Jorge Masvidal the fight to make at 170-pounds?

In the UFC’s welterweight rankings, Burns is currently ranked 4th whereas Jorge Masvidal is ranked 8th. Masvidal is one of the biggest stars in the UFC which gives him the power to decide his next opponent. The crucial factor here is that Masvidal himself has expressed an interest in fighting Burns and stated that ‘Durinho’ had his respect for the way he fights. 

Colby Covington

A fight between the two makes perfect sense right now, given where they are in their respective careers. However, a crucial factor that comes into play is Jorge Masvidal’s ongoing lawsuit. ‘Gamebred’ is currently facing felony misdemeanour charges for his assault on Colby Covington. This might see him face jail time, which will throw any plans of a potential fight out of the window.
