“I Don’t Want to Knock Him Out”- Colby Covington Has an Excruciating Game Plan in Mind for Jorge Masvidal
There have been just a few instances in UFC history when a PPV card was not headlined by a title fight. This is the second time in his career that Jorge Masvidal has headlined a PPV event that was not a title fight. It just goes to show the star power that ‘Gamebred’ has and the UFC’s faith in him to be able to sell PPVs well.
‘Gamebred’ is all set to face his former roommate and training partner Colby Covington in what will be one of the biggest grudge matches UFC fans have ever witnessed. In a recent interview with Stephen A Smith, Colby revealed his game plan ahead of the much-anticipated fight.
He said, “Imma make him squeal. He’s talking all this shit, I don’t wanna knock him out. It is not going to be lucky. I am going to hurt him so f***ing bad, you’re not going to be the same person after I am done with you Jorge, I guarantee you’re going to the coma b**ch.”
Who has more to lose at UFC 272? Jorge Masvidal or Colby Covington?
There is a lot more to this fight than just two men locked in the cage. There is a lot of history between the two men and a lot of animosity as well. A loss on Saturday night will without a doubt haunt Covington or Masvidal for the rest of their lives even after they’re done with their respective fighting careers.
Jorge Masvidal is winless in his last two fights. Covington on the other hand is 1-1 in his last two fights. Given his age and his recent run of form, a third straight loss would be absolutely devastating for ‘Gamebred’. On paper at least, Covington has the advantage in wrestling and cardio. The common consensus is that he will bank on these two attributes to secure the win against Masvidal. Since both men have fallen short against the champion twice now, a win will not guarantee a title shot for either fighter. However, it will definitely get them one step closer to a title shot down the line.
