“I Don’t Know if Anybody Is a Big Threat for Kamaru Usman”- Dana White Seemingly Dismisses Leon Edwards With His Latest Statement
‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Kamaru Usman is the current welterweight champion of the world. He is also the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world after putting together an impressive resume of wins over the top contenders in his division. As he prepares for his 6th title defense, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ will prepare for yet another rematch in his career, this time around, it is a rematch seven years in the making.
In a recent interview, Dana White shared his thoughts on the fight between Edwards and Usman. He said, “I don’t know if anybody is a big threat for Kamaru Usman. Kamaru Usman is the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world. And he is the greatest welterweight ever. All Canadians are gonna go crazy. But listen, it’s hard to deny now this guy is the greatest welterweight ever. If you look at what he has accomplished.”
White continued, “Now he’s talking a lot of guys. He is beating guys twice. I can tell you this Leon Edwards is the number one contender in the world right now. He is the guy that should be fighting the champ. So we will see what Leon brings that night.”
Leon Edwards, to be a bigger threat to Kamaru Usman than Dana White is giving him credit for?
‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is an extremely well-rounded fighter. During his title reign, he has faced elite wrestlers, Jiu-Jitsu experts, and elite strikers as well. However, Usman has always managed to come out on top and more often than not, has done so with an extremely impressive display of mixed martial arts.
Leon Edwards has improved significantly since the first time the two men faced each other. He is an excellent striker who has a 70% takedown defense, which will make it an extremely competitive fight for the champion. Needless to say, with his recent development, it would be hard to say that Edwards has the edge over Usman in the striking department. When it comes to wrestling, there is a clear winner. It will be interesting to see how this fight plays out.
