‘I Did Enough to Win the Fight’- Calvin Kattar Makes Declaration on his Split Decision UFC Fight Night Loss to Josh Emmett

UFC featherweight Calvin Kattar put on a show at UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs Emmett after going toe-to-toe against Josh Emmett in a five-round war. Ultimately, Josh Emmett won the split decision victory and is likely to take Kattar’s number four ranking in the UFC’s official ranking system.

With the narrow win going to Emmett, Calvin Kattar revealed that he believed he had done enough to pick up the win. While he congratulated Josh Emmett for being a ‘class act’, he was bullish on the fact that his effort on the night was substantial enough that the judges’ should have seen it his way.

“I just thought I was going to get my hand raised at the end of it. I didn’t care, we give a sh*t if it’s unanimous or a split. I thought I did enough to win the fight. Josh is a class act, a tough kid. Congrats to him and his team.”

“… There was never a point I thought I could sit back, but I thought I was edging him out, especially the longer the fight went. The fifth round, I thought I took it. I know he wanted to stand in the center and bang but I mean, that’d be cool I guess if I wasn’t up in the fight, maybe. I thought I was landing the better shots, but I’m not a judge. It went the way it did, but I thought I did enough to win the fight.”

Kattar is also open to learning from his mistakes from the fight after re-watching the contest. He seemed to be puzzled more than disappointed as Kattar finished the fight strong and expected to come out victorious.

“I thought I did enough to beat a high-level caliber opponent,” Kattar said. “I just have to go back, check the tape, see what’s up. I’ve really got more questions than anything.” [h/t  bjpenn.com]

Calvin Kattar will lose his spot in the ranking and likely drop down one spot in the ranking after his defeat. Despite the losses, he’s shown that he belongs in the upper echelon of the division and can compete against the very best of the division.
