“I Am the Ultimate Competitor”- Henry Cejudo Compares Himself to Michael Jordan as He Makes His Case for an Immediate Title Shot Against Alexander Volkanovski
After two years on the sidelines, ‘The King of Cringe’ has had enough. Henry Cejudo re-entered the USADA’s testing pool on Monday with the aim of coming back to compete later this year against Alexander Volkanovski for the featherweight belt.
‘Triple C’ retired from the sport after an impressive title defense against Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. Ever since then, Cejudo has not competed professionally in any capacity. Therefore, if he were to compete in the UFC again, he has to clear certain tests with USADA. Cejudo will be tested for six months and during that time if all of his tests are negative, Cejudo will be given the green light to compete in the UFC again. Cejudo re-entered the pool on 11th April 2022, which means if all goes well he will receive the green light on 11th October 2022.
In a recent interview with Daniel Cormier, Cejudo explained why he deserves the title shot against Volkanovski. He said, “And at the end of the day that is what it is for me DC. When you put the cringe aside, when you put the character aside, when you put the persona aside, I am the ultimate competitor man.”
‘Triple C’ continued, “I put myself in the category of Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt, Manny Pacquiao, Michael Jordan as a two-sport champion, and just as a competitor in general. I want to push the limits of the body to places where it has been unknown.”
Will we see Henry Cejudo compete in the UFC octagon in 2022?
‘The King of Cringe’ will be eligible to fight after October 11th this year. This means that there will be only two months left in 2022 for Cejudo to secure a fight. Most likely, we will not see Cejudo compete this year because by that point the UFC has finalized most of the fights.
The only way Cejudo fights in 2022 if he gets his chance as a last-minute replacement either in the featherweight division or the bantamweight division. His return will most certainly not be for a title directly. Do you think we see Henry Cejudo fight in the UFC this year? Let us know in the comments below!
