How Much Are Colts’ Asking For Trading Jonathan Taylor?

Running back Jonathan Taylor has been given permission by the Indianapolis Colts to inquire about trades, and insider Tom Pelissero likened a prospective transaction to the one that brought Christian McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers to the San Francisco 49ers.

How Much Are Colts’ Asking For Trading Jonathan Taylor?

This was a swift reversal from the previous weekend when team owner Jim Irsay expressed excitement about Taylor joining the squad.

Theoretically, nothing has changed because the Colts will still want a king’s ransom for Taylor even if they aren’t ready to extend his deal to his satisfaction at the moment.

The Colts are reportedly asking for “even more” than the compensation the Carolina Panthers received for Christian McCaffrey during the 2022 campaign, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Carolina received three 2023 draft picks—the second, third, and fourth—as well as a 2024 fifth-round selection from the San Francisco 49ers.

According to reports, Indianapolis is interested in a Day 1 pick that eluded the Panthers. The Colts are looking for a first for Taylor, according to ESPN’s Stephen Holder.

Still, it was said that the Panthers wanted “multiple first-round picks” in exchange for McCaffrey. It’s likely that the Colts will also have to give in to their requests to move Taylor.

“Go back to last year at the trade deadline. The 49ers were willing to give up a package of picks to the Panthers for Christian McCaffrey that included a 2023-second rounder plus three-additional picks.”

“My understanding is the Colts would want even more than that for Jonathan Taylor, and it’s easy to understand why. He’s 24 years old. He was the rushing champ back in 2021, averages 5.1 yards per attempt for his career.”

“It all makes this a very difficult deal to do, but as we saw with McCaffrey last year, all it takes is one team with a real need to be willing to step up to the plate.”

In an era where organizations increasingly view effective rushers as replaceable, McCcaffrey’s pass-catching skills likely offer him a higher perceived worth than Taylor’s.

Through his first three seasons, Taylor has 104 receptions for 802 yards. On the other side, McCaffrey outperformed those figures in just 2018 and 2019.

Taylor is also going to start a walk year, unlike McCaffrey. After the Colts turned down his request for a long-term deal, the 2021 leading rusher demanded a trade last month.
