Their second victory came just four years after renaming themselves the Toronto Raptors. They defeated the San Francisco Warriors 4-2 in the series.

The Sixers won their 3rd championship against the Lakers in 1983. The series was won by Julius Erving and Moses Malone, who swept Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and the Lakers 4-0. The 76ers entered the playoffs with a league-best regular-season record of 65-17.
