The National Weather Service’s records reveal that Frisco’s daily high temperatures during the week of Barber’s body’s discovery varied from the upper 80s to the low 90s.
The former Pro Bowl player’s passing occurred at the beginning of a heat wave in Texas that has seen temperatures soar into the triple digits in the Dallas area and throughout the state, taxing the state’s electrical grid and leading the Electric Reliability Council of Texas to issue a statewide appeal for people to conserve energy on Monday.
The temperature in Barber’s rental apartment was set to 91 degrees with the heat on when police officers arrived to check on him, according to a complete autopsy report on him that the Fort Worth Star-Telegram was able to get.
According to the Star-Telegram, the medical examiner noted in the report that “Mr. Barber was known to exercise in sauna-like settings.” Barber’s father, Marion Barber II, a former NFL player as well, told the Star-Telegram that when police discovered his son, his corpse was severely decomposed.
According to a police incident record acquired by ABC member station WFAA in Dallas, authorities were contacted on June 1 by a resident of Barber’s apartment complex who was worried about Barber’s welfare. The police discovered Barber’s corpse in a bathroom shower that was not filled with water.
As per reports, the employee informed police that a neighbour had called for service on May 11 because the water was dripping into their apartment from Barber’s unit. The worker said he was unable to get in touch with Barber on May 12 or 13, and he also claimed that Barber ignored several calls and emails for two weeks. When they arrived to the apartment on June 1, the police discovered an unopened note the employee had placed on Barber’s door, according to the incident report.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that a person has a heat stroke when their body is unable to regulate its temperature, leading their body temperature to increase quickly and their sweating mechanism to malfunction, leaving them unable to cool down. According to the CDC, a person’s body temperature can reach 106 degrees during a heat stroke in 10 to 15 minutes.
According to the CDC, warning indications of heat stroke include a fast pulse, pounding headache, dizziness, nausea, disorientation, and red, hot, and dry skin in addition to an unusually high body temperature.
The Dallas Cowboys selected Barber, a star three-sport athlete from the University of Minnesota, in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft. Barber played for the team for six seasons and was chosen for the Pro Bowl in 2007. Barber joined the Chicago Bears in 2011 and participated in one season until his retirement in 2012.
“We are devastated by Marion Barber III’s sad death. Old-school, tough-minded football player Marion ran with the determination to win every down “When Barber’s passing was initially reported, the Cowboys acknowledged it in a statement. “He loved his teammates and coaches and had a passion for the game.”
On June 22, a funeral service for Barber was conducted at the University of Minnesota’s Huntington Bank Stadium.
