The NFL finally announced the 2022 salary cap, which is $208.2M, following a COVID-reduced amount in 2021. Carryover is the unused salary cap space from the previous season that carries over to the new season. Like when the mobile phone speaks, time was paid for and unused minutes could be carried over to the next month. The same, but with regard to salary-cap capacity.
The 49ers will have $213.4 million to spend in 2022 after adding all the figures to the NFL’s official salary cap. They are now $5.62 million above the cap at $219 million with 49 players under contract. Before March 16, they had to stop paying that compensation. With only one transaction, the 49ers could free approximately $25.55M in cap space.
