‘His absence will be felt in that defense’ – Fans react after Bobby Brown’s suspension for violating NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances

The Los Angeles Rams already had one of the NFL’s top defensive line groups going into the upcoming season with Aaron Donald at the command.

The depth behind the multiple-time All-Pro performer, though, is equally crucial. One of the Rams’ defensive linemen could miss a significant amount of the season. Bobby Brown, a second-year defender, was suspended by the NFL for six games on Monday for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Brown, a fourth-round selection in 2021, participated in 10 games for the Rams as a rookie. The team’s loss of Sebastian Joseph Day to free agency suggests that Brown will have a greater chance in 2022. The prospect of the Texas A&M graduate securing a larger position will probably be put on hold for some time.

The Rams did not trade any defensive linemen this year and did not make any major acquisitions to address the position. Brown played just 22 defensive snaps last season and did not participate in Super Bowl LVI. For the reigning Super Bowl champions, A’Shawn Robinson, Greg Gaines, and Aaron Donald are anticipated to start up front; Brown is seen as depth. The Rams will need to adjust once more, but it won’t need to be as drastic as it was when Joseph-Day missed much of the previous season.

Brown, who will turn 22 in August, used a strong junior year in 2020 at College Station to raise his draft position. In 2020, he recorded 7.5 tackles for loss in addition to 5.5 sacks. Last year, the Rams selected Brown 117th overall; his rookie deal is good through the 2024 campaign.

Twitter users’ reactions to the news of Bobby Browns’ suspension varied

One wrote, ‘’Rams DL Bobby Brown was suspended for the first six weeks due to breaking the NFL’s substance policy.…if Brown gets a longer or same suspension length as DeShaun Watson,’’ while another added, ‘
DT Bobby Brown has been suspended 6 games for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substance policy. Brown was the Rams’ 4th-round pick out of Texas A&M last year and was active for 10 games as a rookie.’’ A third commented,  “take away rams’ super bowl’’
