“His Resume Speaks For Himself”: Jacksonville Jaguars Coach Happy With Trevor Lawrence’s Development

The least unexpected occurrence of the whole offseason was the No. 1 overall pick of Trevor Lawrence in the 2021 draft. His first year’s remainder was incredibly unpredictable. Lawrence was thrown into the fire by the Jacksonville Jaguars, and it swiftly escalated out of control under the short-lived coach Urban Meyer as the defeats mounted.

Lawrence envisions a better future for himself and the Jaguars now that the dust has cleared and the light is starting to peep over the horizon on a new era under coach Doug Pederson.

Doug Pederson was a definite improvement over Urban Meyer when the Jaguars hired him in February. The Jacksonville team needed a leader with immediate credibility after the failure that was their 2021 campaign. Pederson had it after leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl win in 2017.

Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Pederson praises Trevor Lawrence

“[H]is resume speaks for itself. But then seeing the way he carries himself, the way he treats people,” Lawrence said.

“The way he leads, I think we’re similar — just our demeanors our personality. Doesn’t get too high or too low. I think that’s really important to have if you’re going to be a really good head coach, especially in the NFL.”

“So it’s been great getting to know him. I think he’s done a great job just planning out our offseason. There were a lot of changes we needed to make and I think he’s made those. He’s put together a great plan of progressing our team offensively and defensively. So now that we’re ready going into camp, I think he’s done a great job. So, I’m excited.”

The development of Trevor Lawrence is one of head coach Pederson’s top priorities. Along with offensive coordinator Press Taylor, passing game coordinator Jim Bob Cooter, and quarterbacks coach Mike McCoy, Pederson chose a staff with extensive expertise.
