‘His Hands are Legit… He’s a Gamer’- Demetrious Johnson Has High Praise for Henry Cejudo’s Odds in a Potential Fight Against Aljamain Sterling and Alexander Volkanovski

Consensus flyweight GOAT Demetrious Johnson spoke to MMA Fighting and commented about Henry Cejudo’s chances in some potential blockbuster fights. Cejudo was the man to dethrone Johnson after his long run of title defenses that ultimately saw Johnson making a move to ONE Championship in a landmark trade for Ben Askren.

Johnson has since settled into ONE Championship and has turned in some spectacular performances that have been added to his highlight reel. Moreover, he was also recently seen spending time catching up with Cejudo, and the two have seemingly become close associates.

Mighty Mouse talks about ‘intelligent’ Henry Cejudo

Johnson was all praise for Henry Cejudo as he recognized the tact with which he approaches the fight game. He was also exceedingly impressed with the way Cejudo picked up the championship in two weight classes and also defended his belt against some top-tier names in the sport.

“He’s intelligent, he’s an athlete – I mean, he’s done something I haven’t done,” Johnson said of Cejudo in an interview with MMA Fighting. “You know, he’s won the world championship at flyweight and bantamweight, and he’s defended the flyweight title and the bantamweight title, right?

Moreover, Demetrious Johnson also gave an overview of Henry Cejudo’s chances if he faces off against the current bantamweight and featherweight champions, respectively. Johnson gave Cejudo favorable odds as he saw ‘Triple C’ as a ‘gamer’, but he was also well aware that the deck will be stacked against him if he faces Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanovski.

“If he was to fight Aljamain Sterling, I think he poses a lot of problems to Aljamain Sterling because, one, his wrestling is legit, his hands are legit, and Henry Cejudo, he’s a gamer,” Johnson said. “Like, he’ll go out there and he’s gonna push the pace and try to win the fight.” [h/t mmafighting.com]

“I think [fighting for the featherweight title] is gonna be a harder thing to do because Volkanovski is, I think, the bigger guy, and Volkanovski has been more active. And I think the weight discrepancy is going to be there for Volkanovski, right? Do I think Henry Cejudo has the talent and skill set and the mindset to beat Volkanovski? Absolutely, it’s a fight, but Volkanovski has been active, he’s been fighting killers. He’s fought Max Holloway two times.”
