Highest-paid QBs in the NFL this season ft. Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes and more

Over the past ten years, the demand for quarterbacks in the NFL has skyrocketed, and for good reason. The position of quarterback is the most crucial in the league, and no club wants to be forced to play with an inconsistent signal-caller.

A $100 million contract was once unusually given out by an NFL team. That has become the quarterback norm in recent years. The fear of losing a star quarterback is a bigger factor in that growth than league income, which is only partially responsible.

Additionally, there are no indicators that the NFL quarterback market is about to slow down. Every year, new agreements seem to surpass the previous crop of extensions. NFL clubs still find a way to compete with those top-tier contracts, even if certain megadeals, like the one possessed by Patrick Mahomes, will be difficult to surpass.

The teams they play for lock down the league’s top players with multi-million dollar contracts each year. In addition to sharing a desire for a Super Bowl victory, Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, and Matthew Stafford all play one of the most profitable positions in sports and earn enormous sums of money.

1. Aaron Rodgers

In 2022, Rodgers, the NFL player with the highest salary this year, will earn a staggering $50.3 million. While Rodgers could miss the league’s second-highest paid WR, Davante Adams, his new deal in Green Bay should make up for any loss. In 2022, Aaron Rodgers will still be in charge despite Kyler Murray signing a sizable new contract.

2. Kyler Murray

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, Kyler Murray signed a five-year deal on July 21, 2022, worth a total of $230.5 million. The contract locks the Cardinals’ quarterback to Arizona through 2028 and guaranteed $160 million. With an average salary of $46.1 million per year, Murray, the 2018 Heisman Trophy winner and first overall choice in the 2019 NFL Draft, is now the second highest-paid quarterback.

3. Deshaun Watson

Watson signed a five-year, $230 million deal with the Browns after being acquired in a trade from the Texans. The whole of Deshaun Watson’s contract, which was carefully reviewed at the time of the transfer, is guaranteed due to the uncertainties surrounding his legal situation at the time of the deal. His annual pay for the following four seasons will be $46 million. Watson had already agreed to a four-year, $177.5 million extension with Houston, but the current Browns’ arrangement superseded the other agreement, which would have taken effect for the 2022 season.

4. Patrick Mahomes

If Patrick Mahomes fulfils all of his incentives, the total amount of his contract, which he signed in September 2020, would be $502.631 million over 12 years. His basic deal is for $477.631 million, or $39.8 million a year, and it covers the last two seasons before his extension takes effect. In 2022, Mahomes will begin making an average of $45 million each year.

5. Josh Allen

With the Bills, Josh Allen has a massive contract worth $258 million over six years. If Allen’s earnings are calculated on a per-minute basis, they are astounding. Josh Allen’s pay right now is $81.81 per minute. His base pay prorated signing bonus, workout bonus, and prorated option bonus total $43 million in 2022.
