Here’s What the Carolina Panthers Want in Exchange to Part Ways With Star Man Christian McCaffrey

The Carolina Panthers are having one of their worst starts to an NFL season in 2022 and things are seeming to go from bad to worse with each game week that passes by. Panthers started off their season with loss against the Browns and the Giants before picking up a win against the New Orleans Saints. Since then, they have lost two straight games against the likes of the 49ers and the Arizona Cardinals.

In game week six, they take on defending champions Los Angeles Rams, which is sure to be another loss in their record. While fans are having a torrid time, it appears as though things are going to get even worse for the Panthers as reports suggest the team is open to listening to offers for their star man Christian McCaffrey.

McCaffrey has been with the Panthers since the 2017 season. He was the eighth pick in the first round of the 2017 draft. Although the Panthers could potentially part ways with McCaffrey, getting a deal done might be easier said than done. In exchange for McCaffrey, the Panthers want a high draft pick or multiple picks.

So far, the team has rebuffed offers from two teams as they did not consider them significant enough to part ways with a player who has been a shining light in the Panthers team for five years now.

Christian McCaffrey and the Carolina Panthers to part ways?

What makes McCaffrey, 26, so attractive to other teams,  aside from his talent is his contract situation. During the spring, the former Pro Bowler lowered his base salary for the 2022 season to just $1.035 million. Meaning any team that acquires him in a trade would have no issues squeezing his contract under its salary cap.

His base salary jumps back up to $11.8 million next season, but that is something that the teams and McCaffrey can deal with while negotiating. It will be interesting to see what kind of offer would tempt the Panthers to part ways with McCaffrey and who would present such an offer. At this point in time, there are no front runners to secure the services of McCaffrey.
