“Henry Is Becoming a Master Strategist”- Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Coach Heaps Praise on Coach of the Year Candidate Henry Cejudo
Henry Cejudo retired from professional MMA in May 2022 after an impressive stoppage win over Dominick Cruz. Following the win, Cejudo stated that he wanted to retire on top of his game and hence wanted to walk away from the sport. However, despite retiring from MMA, Cejudo did not distance himself from the sport.
Soon after his retirement, Cejudo took up an active role in coaching. Along with his long-time head coach Eric Albarracin, Cejudo made his home gym of Fight Read in Arizona a must-visit for fighters wanting to elevate their skills to the next level. The likes of Jon Jones, Weili Zhang, Jiri Prochazka and Deiveson Figueiredo, to name a few, all flocked to train under the able guidance of Henry Cejudo.
In a recent episode of ‘The Schmozone’ American Kickboxing Academy head coach Javier Mendez shared his thoughts on Cejudo as a coach. He said, “I think Henry is becoming a master strategist and I think that, that became a great avenue to explain how he is with strategy and his mentality and approach in the fight game. Like I watched Henry demonstrate on a move to somebody but he said something that really hit me well I said ‘he knows the game’.”
Mendez continued, “He was telling somebody move like a Tyson but not as much as Tyson. And so he understands the importance of Tyson type movement but he understands that every individual is different so he understands that you can not make him a Tyson, you can make a tiny Tyson. And that is what he did to this person and I said ‘wow’…. Henry is becoming a hell of a strategist.”
Will Henry Cejudo’s coaching stint help him in his return to action?
Cejudo has been coaching fighters for the better part of two years now. In that time ‘Triple C’ has surely picked up insights that would have been otherwise impossible to pick up as just a fighter.
‘The King of Cringe’ has always been a very cerebral fighter. It will be interesting to see how his experience being on the other side of the fence will help him as he aims to regain his bantamweight belt once again.
