Heats Coach Erik Spoelstra Shuts ESPN Reporter Ramona Shelburne Calling Her Question Ridiculous

Erik Spoelstra, the head coach of the Miami Heat, deserves a lot of praise for the excellent job he has done with the group. Spoelstra and the Heat effectively tied the NBA Finals series at 1-1 with a commanding 111-108 victory in Game 2.

Heats Coach Erik Spoelstra Shuts ESPN Reporter Ramona Shelburne Calling Her Question Ridiculous

It’s difficult to defend Nuggets center Nikola Joki. Several Heat players had to learn this the hard way during Game 1, and the outcome was inevitably terrible as Denver defeated Miami 104-93.

ESPN reporter Ramona Shelburne took to building a question around this discrepancy: was there a blueprint to stopping Jokić hinging on Miami turning him into a scorer rather than a distributor?

After being questioned by Ramona Shelburne last night, Erik Spoelstra responded angrily.

Shelburne’s query concerning Nikola Jokic of Denver, in which she said the Heat urged him to shoot more often and pass less, was dismissed by Miami’s head coach. Spoelstra referred to the investigation as “ridiculous.”

“That’s ridiculous. That’s the untrained eye that says something like that. This guy is an incredible player. Twice in two seasons he’s been the best player on this planet. You can’t just say, “Oh, make him a scorer.” That’s not how they play.”

“We have to focus on what we do. We try to do things the hard way and he requires you to do many things the hard way and he has our full respect.”

Some supporters of Spoelstra have contended that emotions are always high during the NBA Finals. However, it seems that the majority of onlookers believed Erik handled Shelburne’s query in a way that was inappropriate for her more than 20 years of reporting experience.

Shelbourne agreed that her inquiry was overly simplistic, and Spoelstra praised Jokic for his contribution to the game.

Another fan criticized Spoelstra’s “untrained eye” comment, pointing out how ridiculous it was given the way Miami handled Jokic throughout the broadcast of the game.

“I mean, Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy talked during the broadcast about making Jokic into either a scorer or passer. Safe to say, those former NBA coaches are not guys with ‘untrained eyes.’ This is just Spoelstra not wanting to give up any info.”

Another supporter remarked, “This was a good question by [Ramona Shelburne].”
