In what was one of the biggest stories in the off-season, the Denver Broncos, one of the most decorated franchises in the NFL, was bought by a consortium of investors led by Rob Walton, the heir to the Walmart fortune the group of investors also includes seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Things have not worked out well for the Denver Broncos this season. Seven games into the season, they have a record of 2-5. What is even more concerning is the fact that the team has managed to score more than 20 points only once in seven games. The Denver Broncos’ defense is one of the best in the league, but the offense led by Russell Wilson has been a thorough let down.

In a recent interview, CEO and one of the owners of the Denver Broncos, Greg Penner shared his thoughts on his main man’s performances so far this season.

He said, “Russell’s won a lot of games in the NFL. He’s been a 9-time Pro Bowler, he’s won a Super Bowl. Russell knows how to win. The specifics on the contract area, that’s a place where I do rely on George and his expertise. I think he is going to be a great quarterback for us. He hasn’t performed at his expectations. But he’s a fierce competitor. And I think he’ll be a great quarterback for us.”

Penner continued, “You wake up on Monday morning, and you wonder if that really happened yesterday,” he said. “You kind of go through the first day or two of the week in a bit of a fog. This is ownership. And finally when you get to Wednesday or Thursday, you start looking forward to the next game.”

Penner was not the owner at the time general manager George Paton hired Nathaniel Hackett as head coach and traded for Russell Wilson. However, he did back a five-year, $245 million extension for the former Seahawks man.
