‘He hasn’t even won a playoff game’ – NFL fans react after Kyler Murray extends contract with Cardinals until 2028

The Arizona Cardinals and quarterback Kyler Murray are moving past their contentious offseason. According to several sources, Murray has agreed on a contract extension to increase his salary to among the highest in the league.

Since February, when Murray initially removed any ties to the Cardinals from his social media, it has been evident that Murray is dissatisfied with his deal. After that, his agent issued a lengthy statement claiming to have given the Cardinals a comprehensive extension proposal.

After months of back and forth, General Manager Steve Keim predicted in May that Arizona and Murray would settle by the end of the summer.

According to Rapoport and Pelissero, Murray’s five-year agreement is worth $230.5 million with $160 million in guarantees. According to Pelissero, Murray will make $30 million in the contract’s first year, $69 million over two years, and $106.15 million over three years.

With an average annual value of $46.1 million thanks to the agreement, Murray is now the second-highest-paid player in the NFL, trailing only Aaron Rodgers ($50.3 million) but surpassing Deshaun Watson ($46 million).

During his inaugural year in 2019, Arizona had a 5-10-1 record; however, the Cardinals improved to 11-6 the following year before falling to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Wild Card playoffs stage.

The action ends an odd, passive-aggressive offseason contract dispute. At one point, Murray deleted all mentions of the Cardinals from his social media sites, and it wasn’t apparent if the team was prepared to make a long-term commitment.

Murray then said, “I’m an Arizona Cardinal.” “I’ve done nothing except give the Cardinals all I have, and I will keep doing that. I’m not particularly concerned about my potential as a Cardinal.”

Murray was picked by the Cardinals with the first overall choice in the 2019 draught, winning the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award before earning a spot in the Pro Bowl in his subsequent two campaigns. The Cardinals’ victory total increased from 5 to 8 to 11, and they entered the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 campaign this past season.
