Has Taylor Swift’s Rumored Relationship With Chiefs Star Travis Kelce Insanely Increased NFL Ratings?
Taylor Swift, who has been linked to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, attended a game in Kansas City for the second week in a row. Swift was spotted in a box at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey with other celebs Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds on many occasions.
Has Taylor Swift’s Rumored Relationship With Chiefs Star Travis Kelce Insanely Increased NFL Ratings?
The game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets on NBC averaged over 27 million people, making it the most-watched Sunday broadcast since Super Bowl LVII on Fox in February.

Preliminary figures from NBC, Peacock, NBC Sports Digital, and NFL Digital platforms show a 22% increase over last year’s Week 4 game (22.2 million as the Chiefs met Tom Brady and the Buccaneers). Last night’s game also had a national TV household rating of 12.9/35, a 15% increase over the previous year’s Week 4 meeting.

Viewership peaked at 29.4 million people between 9:30 and 9:45 p.m. ET, as the Jets closed to within eight points of the Chiefs in the second quarter. However, Kansas City ultimately took home the win with a 23-20 final score.

While the 17 cuts to Swift and her celebrity entourage on the production truck helped raise NBC’s total ratings on Sunday night, the TV turnout for the shockingly tight Chiefs-Jets game would’ve been tremendous even without all the pop window decorating.
The Super Bowl champions and the AFC representative from the No. 1 media market averaged 24.8 million linear TV viewers, with streaming deliveries boosting the total viewership to 26.7 million. This is a 20% increase over the previous year’s Chiefs-Bucs broadcast, a 41-31 battle in which Patrick Mahomes’ arsenal triumphed against Tom Brady’s crew.

Indeed, NBC reached 1.9 million more women than they did in the previous year’s SNF frame. When those increased female impressions are evaluated against the overall increases in total viewing, the number of [supposedly] Swift-generated lookers-on comes in at roughly 1.45 million.
In terms of overall audience makeup, Sunday night’s crowd was just slightly more female-skewing (38%) than any other usual SNF gathering, with primetime games typically serving up a 36-64 gender split.

However, by keeping things close (the final score being 23-20), New York almost ensured a blockbuster night for NBC. The Chiefs are the NFL’s best draw, with an average of 26.2 million viewers per game in three national visits, while Gotham’s base of 7.73 million TV homes provides for a perfect ratings environment.
With the NFL’s unequalled reach, the Swifties in the SNF crowd are a drop in the bucket. Even if they hadn’t assembled in front of the television in an odd display of adoration for their queen, NBC could still claim two of the season’s three most-watched NFL games.
