Gregor Gillespie Refutes Rumors of UFC Release: ‘I Am Not Going Anywhere!’

UFC lightweight Gregor Gillespie took to social media and clarified the rumors circulating around his status as an active UFC fighter. Gregor ‘The Gift’ has been removed from the UFC lightweight rankings and this led to talks around him not being on the roster anymore.

In a comprehensive series of tweets, Gregor Gillespie went on to say that the main reasoning behind his displacement from the rankings stems from his inactivity. He last stepped under the bright lights all the way back on May 8, 2021, and he elapsed on his 12-month grace period for re-entering the cage.

“I am removed from the rankings.. Not from the organization. (Fighters are removed after 12 months of inactivity). I am not going anywhere! The UFC has always been great to me! 100% class! It is not their fault that I don’t have a fight. They have offered me plenty of fights.”

Gregor Gillespie goes off on the lightweight division

Known for being a rather soft-spoken fighter, Gregor Gillespie deviated from his usual mode of operation and went right after the lightweight division. He called out fighters like Tony Ferguson and Rafael dos Anjos for not accepting a fight with him. Moreover, he also doubled down on his willingness to take the right fight that would move him closer to that title.

“I am patiently waiting for a fight that will get me closer to a title. Since Tony Ferguson turned me down 100x last year, and Michael Chandler didn’t seem interested, and since RDA just turned down a fight against me (which I accepted) I guess Beneil Dariush will have to do.”

“PS.. RDA, chandler, offer fu*king stands. RDA was cool fighting me on 4 days-notice (when i was on the top of a mountain 7 hrs away), but turns me down on a full camp.”

Gregor Gillespie has an NCAA D1 championship-level credentials and he’s backing himself to use his imposing skillset against the upper echelon of the division. Chiefly, his track record in his relatively short UFC stint has shown plenty the promise toward a championship strap.
