GM Michael Finley Talks About Bad Personality Traits Of Former Mavs Player Grant Williams

Luka Dončić, the point guard for the Dallas Mavericks, has been playing exceptionally well this season, especially after the NBA All-Star break. In the midst of Dončić’s unbelievable run of seven straight triple-doubles, Grant Williams, a former Mavs player, was featured in an amazing anecdote that assistant general manager Michael Finley shared earlier in the season.

GM Michael Finley Talks About Bad Personality Traits Of Former Mavs Player Grant Williams

Following a barrage of insulting remarks throughout practice, Dončić disgraced his former teammate Grant Williams. Finley told how Williams tried to get under Dončić’s skin, but it backfired swiftly.

Williams’ ‘playful’ taunts were said to have offended teammates and staff, particularly Mavs player Luka Doncic.

According to a recent report from inside the company, Grant Williams is really a bothersome person in the locker room.

Speaking about the former Maverick, assistant general manager Michael Finley of the Dallas Mavericks related a tale about how Williams made himself seem bad in front of the team by trash-talking Luka Doncic at a Mavs practice.

“One day in practice, … he decided that he wanted to get under Luka’s skin. He felt that Luka didn’t come that day ready to practice,” Finley shared on 105.3 The Fan.

The assistant GM continued, “They had a scrimmage going, and he’s talking trash to Luka up and down the court. So finally, Luka says, ‘O.K.’

“And I’ll tell you, Luka went on a 26-6 run by himself. … He showed everything, the 3s, the post-up, the floaters, everything, by himself.

“And everybody on the sideline, including the coaches, were like, ‘Do not poke the bear.’ And we had guests in the gym at the time, and they’re on the sidelines oohing and ahhing. It was unbelievable.”

Since then, Williams has been dealt to the Charlotte Hornets, and Dončić is only missed out on a season-long triple-double average. The league-leading 34.6 points, 9.9 assists, and 9.1 rebounds per game, on 49.5% shooting from the field, are being averaged by the All-Star guard through 57 games.

In an interview with Brian Windhorst, MacMahon discussed his observations about the fallout around Grant Williams in Dallas, pointing out that the player’s lack of output only served to erode Dallas’ low threshold for Williams.

“I would say one of the ways that Grant Williams rubbed people the wrong way [was] the yap, yap, yapping. Obviously, that’s kind of part of it with him,” MacMahon shared.
