‘Give Me Somebody in the Top Five, Give Me…’- Former Champion Dominick Cruz Lists Off His Targets to Fight Next

Former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz spoke to ‘The Schmo’ in an explosive interview that has captured the attention of MMA fans. Arguably one of the best 135-pounder right from his days in WEC, Dominick Cruz is keen to turn back the clock and capture UFC gold once more before he calls it quits on his career.

For a while, it seemed as though Dominick Cruz would have to retire from the sport abruptly due to a series of injuries that sidelined him. However, he is back to actively competing and is coming off two straight wins in his recent outings since losing to Henry Cejudo in May 2020.

In his recent interview with ‘The Schmo’, Cruz talked about wanting to move forward in his career and face bantamweights ranked higher than him. Notably, he went on to rattle off names of competitors who were on his radar, including former champions like Jose Aldo and Petr Yan.

It’s also apparent that he wants to rematch Henry Cejudo and avenge his TKO loss that came at UFC 249. Cruz complained about the referee Keith Peterson being under the influence of alcohol during officiating and he maintains this belief to this day.

“I want to move up. Give me somebody in the top five, give me an Aldo, give me a Petr Yan, give me Aljamain Sterling,” Cruz continued. “You know what, give me the rematch with Cejudo when he gets his sh*t together. I don’t care, like let me be the first person he faces until he gets right back in the division. I got no beef with him.” [h/t bjpenn.com]

It’s clear that Dominick Cruz has nothing but championship aspirations in his mind. At 36, he is likely reaching the end of his prime active years and he wants to make the best of his skill set by dispatching big-name opponents who will bolster his overall legacy.
