Gilbert Arenas Says Lebron James’ Performance Is A Huge Pressure On Others

On his Gil’s Arena program, former NBA all-star Gilbert Arenas talked about LeBron James and his high caliber of play and raised an intriguing but rarely brought up issue regarding the Lakers star’s longevity.

Gilbert Arenas Says Lebron James’ Performance Is A Huge Pressure On Others

In a few months, LeBron James will begin his 21st season in the NBA, and the level of output he has displayed in his late 30s is unheard of for a basketball player of his age.

He held things steady during the previous season, averaging 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game, until a few midseason transactions turned the Los Angeles Lakers into title contenders. He managed to do so despite having foot issues for the whole of the season.

James appears to be redefining what is feasible for sportsmen who undergo extreme wear and tear. Gilbert Arenas, a former NBA player, has a different perspective and feels that the four-time MVP is putting pressure on others, especially those who don’t age well.

“It just puts so much pressure on people,” Arenas said. “The fact that he’s 39, doing what he’s doing, makes 30 seem like you’re a rookie. Now we have a glimpse of what 38 and 39 is capable of doing, which means when players are looking like they’re slowing down at 31, 32, I don’t know how we accept that anymore.”

Although James is actually 38 years old, Arenas’ remark is still valid. Other NBA players have not been able to play at a level that is even remotely comparable for as long as James has.

James has been reasonably healthy for the majority of his career, especially before joining the Lakers, and his longevity is unheard of. Regarding Los Angeles, it’s been a little bit of a different story.

James has never played more than 67 games in a single season with Los Angeles, and the 2022–23 season saw him suffer with a foot ailment.

Despite this, the 38-year-old proved that he is still one of the NBA’s top players during the 2022–23 season.

James will turn 39 in the latter part of December. However, if he managed to put together yet another MVP-caliber performance this next season, it probably wouldn’t surprise many people.
