Giants Coach Brian Daboll Debuts New Goatee

On Sunday night, there was something distinctive about New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll. If you couldn’t quite pinpoint it, it was because Daboll chopped off his thick beard before the game against the Washington Commanders and replaced it with a sparse goatee.

Prior to Sunday’s crucial game against Washington, the Giants had a record of 1-4-1 in their previous six games, and Daboll determined something needed to change. The beard was removed after he declared that he would “do everything for a win.”

“That includes looking like this, which, trust me my wife and daughters are not very happy about that,” Daboll said. “Tried to do anything for a win. It was almost a mustache. I gained about I don’t know how many pounds the last couple weeks. I kept a little bit of a goatee on there, cover up some of the other parts.”

Now that the Giants earned a win, Daboll said the beard-less look “absolutely” has to stay.

“Unfortunately for everybody else, but yeah, not really sure that really makes a difference,” Daboll said. “But, change it up. There’s a lot of there’s a lot of skin underneath that beard. So be it.”

“But I try to do anything for a win. So, it was almost a mustache. I gained about — I don’t know how many pounds — the last couple weeks. So, I kept a little bit of the goatee on there [to] cover up some of the other parts. There’s a lot of parts.”

Really, he has no choice but to keep the goatee. The Giants (8-5-1) needed every ounce of good fortune and generous calls from the officials against Washington.

His quarterback won’t let him change it, either. After Daboll’s postgame press conference on Sunday night, he crossed paths with Daniel Jones. They shared a hug, and Daboll lauded his quarterback for his effort.

That’s when Jones told his coach: “Now you got to keep the goatee!”
