Get To Know Mattress Mack: The Champion Of Sports Betting

While Houston celebrated the Astros’ World Series triumph in 2022, Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale’s bank account grew. Mattress Mack, who was known for putting massive bets on sporting events, received the greatest legal payment in American sports betting history: $75 million. It’s a narrative that’s become routine at this point, as a Mattress Mack bet seems to make news every time there’s a major athletic event.

Jim McIngvale, a Houston-area businessman, is known as “Mattress Mack.”

McIngvale’s family relocated to Dallas when he was a child, and he went on to play football for the University of Texas and later the University of North Texas in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

McIngvale believes that after dropping out before completing his degree, he received his big break when he was sacked from a job at a convenience store. While most people would be discouraged by this, McIngvale was able to get work at a Dallas furniture company, where he learned the ins and outs of the business.

Gallery Furniture, which he launched in 1981, has grown to become one of Houston’s largest furniture retailers.

McIngvale became a local hero after appearing in a Gallery Furniture commercial in 1983.

Though Gallery Furniture has always been first for Mattress Mack, he has also pursued other professional interests. In 1992, he and his wife Linda co-produced the Chuck Norris picture “Sidekicks.” In 2002, he co-wrote a book called “Always Think Big,” which detailed his entrepreneurial experience. He is also a philanthropist, having invested in Houston and opened his businesses to needy families following natural catastrophes like as Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Ida.

Mattress Mack most recently has become known for being a big-time sports bettor.

2023 Astros Bet

According to USA TODAY, McIngvale, 72, reportedly wagered $2 million on the Astros to win the 2023 World Series at +600 odds at DraftKings Sportsbook, as well as $1.9 million on the Astros at +600 odds at Caesars Sportsbook, according to FOX Sports’ Patrick Everson. On a $3.9 million bet, the businessman would receive a cashout of more than $23.4 million.

He is now making his mark on another aspect of the entertainment industry: the World Series of Poker (WSOP).

This summer at the WSOP, Mattress Mack is assisting a poker stable. A poker stable is a group of players that are all supported by the same organization or individual. In this instance, Mattress Mack is the stable’s sole supporter, and he will pay the entrance fees that allow players to compete in each competition.

Mattress Mack made the arrangement after being pleased by Houston poker pro-Will Leffingwell’s performance. As Leffingwell stated to PokerNews at the WPT Choctaw Main Event in mid-May, it prompted him to consider putting some money into poker.

McIngvale enjoys betting on a variety of sports, including professional baseball, and it makes little difference whether or not a Houston-based club is involved. He bets big on the Super Bowl, making a $4.5 million bet on the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2022 Super Bowl, which is thought to be the highest wager in Caesars Sportsbook history. McIngvale also enjoys betting on the Kentucky Derby, college football, and college basketball, particularly during March Madness.

Mattress Mack startled the sports betting industry by declining to wager on the 2023 Super Bowl following his $4.5 million loss bet in the 2022 Super Bowl. Mattress Mack was “sitting the Super Bowl out,” according to ESPN sports betting columnist David Purdum, in the game in which the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles.

Below are some of Mattress Mack’s most notable bets, including his recent wagers on the Astros’ World Series odds, Bengals’ Super Bowl odds and Epicenter’s chances to win the Kentucky Derby.
