From riches to rags? Former NBA star Delonte West spotted ‘panhandling’ in Virginia
Former NBA star Delonte West was photographed lingering outside a 7-Eleven in Alexandria, Virginia. It is only days after he was recorded panhandling on Richmond Highway.
What happened to Delonte West? Is the Ex-NBA player panhandling?
West can be seen in the video speaking with numerous passers-by and standing on an ice refrigerator to plug his phone into an electrical socket. In recent years, the 38-year-old has suffered from substance misuse, as well as mental health concerns and bipolar illness.

West played in the NBA for eight years, including stints with the Celtics, Mavericks, and Cavaliers. In February, he resumed training in the hopes of earning a position in Ice Cube’s Big 3 3-on-3 basketball league. However, he allegedly “no-showed” at the league’s draught last month.
West, a former first-round selection of the Celtics in 2004, initially drew attention in February 2016. In Houston, he was seen barefoot and dressed in a medical robe. A video of him panhandling in Maryland went viral that June.
Then, in January 2020, a disturbing video of a naked and bloodied West on a Maryland sidewalk after an apparent brawl appeared. Following the event, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban assisted in establishing West. He last appeared in the NBA in 2012, as part of a rehabilitation program.
However, West relapsed in October of last year and was detained outside a Florida police station. Delonte West is a former NBA player who suffers from bipolar illness. He was spotted lurking outside a Virginia 7/11 convenience shop. He looked to be soliciting individuals for money and appeared to collect a handful of dollar dollars at one point.

The altercation prompted an officer to draw his taser, however, it is unknown if it was deployed on the former Dallas Mavericks star.
West, who has openly discussed his bipolar illness diagnosis. Just before 9 p.m., he grabbed the attention of the Boynton Beach police. When cops told them to halt, they allegedly began to walk away.
He originally refused to cooperate, but eventually obeyed and placed the containers on the pavement. He then rose up and put his hands inside his pants, prompting one cop to remove a taser from his belt. According to arrest records, the 38-year-old was charged with resisting an officer without violence, disorderly drunkenness, and having an open container as a result of the incident.
